St Mary's Weekly Services

You are welcome at all of our services. We hope the information here will help you to decide which services you feel are most appropriate for you - any variations to our normal services will be detailed on our Calendar page or will appear on the Home page. You can find St Mary's here

SUNDAY

8.00am Said Eucharist

A shorter and more contemplative service lasting about 40 minutes. This said service of Holy Communion is a quieter start to the day than the later service. It is held in the Holy spirit chapel and entrance is via the small south transept door (mind the steps upon entry). On the first Sunday of each month this service is according to the traditional words of the Book of Common Prayer.

9.30am Sung Eucharist

Our main Sunday Service of Holy Communion, this service takes place within the nave of the church and usually consists of hymns and a sung setting of the Mass. It lasts just over an hour and a quarter and is followed by refreshments usually served in St Mary’s Hall. For children there is usually a special activity in church or within the Sunday School group in the hall. Children and leaders then join the main congregation for Communion.

First Sunday Service

The 9.30am service on the First Sunday of each month is a more interactive family worship with Holy Communion. There is an activity for children within the body of the church and refreshments are usually provided in church. The service which lasts about an hour is sometimes a Parade Service for our uniformed groups of Brownies, Rainbows and Beavers, who are much valued members of our worshipping community.

WEDNESDAY

10.30am Holy Communion

This short, 30-40 minute, service which takes place in the Holy Spirit Chapel is our main parish mid-week celebration. Often focussing on the saint of the day or week day Eucharist readings, it is usually followed with a time of fellowship over coffee and biscuits at the back of church. Entrance for this service is via the small south transept door (mind the steps upon entry).
